Online series on the documentation of mass atrocity crimes
In addition to being an academic, I’m also the Chairman of Genocide Alert, a German NGO that does lobbying and awareness raising for mass atrocity prevention. This fall, we are organising a three-part event series titled “Justice in the Making: How and Why We Document Atrocities.” With the series, we we’re interrogating the actual documentation process/methods and the underlying motives and principles. Bringing together practitioners, scholars, and advocates, each event explores different dimensions and nuances of the documentation process and aims to open discussions on where atrocity documentation stands right now and where it should be moving in the future.
The series will be running in October and November, with one event every second Monday. Here are our dates, topics, and experts:
- OSINT and Digital Evidence (13 October 2025, 4:30–5:30 PM CEST) - with Federica d’Alessandra
- Survivors, Bereaved, and the Right to Truth: Documentation and Healing (27 October 2025, 4:30–5:30 PM CEST) - with Dr Ellie Smith und Ali Simoqy
- The Ethics of Documenting Atrocities (10 November 2025, time tba) - with PBI Kenya and the Right to Life Committee des Social Justice Centre Movement
More information, including the links for the mandatory registration, can be found our website. I’ll be moderating the event and would be delighted if you joined one or all sessions!
