This graduate course seeks to sensitise students to the ethical, scientific, logistical, and legal questions regarding human remains in different contexts. I have contributed a lecture on the diversity of different legal classifications and their implications for the management of human remains.

This undergraduate course covers the legal dimension of the art trade, the protection of cultural heritage from various threats, and the different points at which law and cultural heritage intersect. Together with paleaontologist Jesse Hennekam, I contributed a lecture about the legal regulation of fossils.

This graduate course introduces students to the ethics and legal considerations necessary for conducting equitable, equitable, and sustainable geoscience research. I have contributed expert lectures on legal issues surrounding the extraction and circulation of palaoentological objects in three consecutive years.

This compulsory undergraduate course introduces core concepts of criminal procedure and explores their rationale through comparative analysis of adversarial and inquisitorial legal systems. It critically examines legislative choices and policy trends, uses ECtHR case law, and covers investigative measures, arrest, pre-trial detention, interrogation, prosecution, trial, and evidence.

I supervise bachelor’s theses on topics relating to “Crimes aganinst culture” for the European Law School programme at Maastricht University. Under my supervision, students have, inter alia, written about cultural genocide, colonial crimes, and emerging technologies in the illicit antiquities trade.
